Vessels in these are almost always indicate an issue with vessels underneath the skin. Spider veins are simply dilated vessels, just under the skin, which tend to get larger with age. They are also referred to as telangiectasia, broken capillaries, and thread veins. Many patients may simply be looking for treatment of an area that looks permanently bruised. Most lesions are red, pink, or purple in color and are very near the surface of your skin (deeper vessels look blue or green). These are most commonly seen on the face or legs, but they can show up anywhere on the body.

Spider veins over the inside of knees or ankles are normally a sign of deeper vein issues. Spider veins over the face are normally caused by a combination of genetics and sun exposure. The good news is that no matter where or what the cause is, we can help get rid of those unsightly veins so you can go out with confidence.

The short answer is that it depends. Proper spider vein treatment requires understanding the root causes of why they developed in the first place. Initial treatment options depend on location. For veins over the lower body, an ultrasound is necessary to determine the exact cause and, therefore, the more effective treatment.  For vessels on the face, light-based treatments such as pulsed dye laser work best to remove spider veins.
For treating spider veins on the lower body, first the root cause of vessel dilation is determined and treated. After the feeder vessels are appropriately treated, treatments such as sclerotherapy and lasers are used to get your confidence back by cleaning up all the superficial dilated veins.

Sclerotherapy treatment involves the injection of medication into the spider veins. The medication irritates the walls of the veins, causing them to collapse and disappear over time. When done correctly, sclerotherapy is one of the most effective ways to treat spider veins in the thighs and legs.

Why is Colorado Skin and Vein the Best Place for Sclerotherapy to Treat Spider Veins?
We proudly only use brand-named, FDA approved, Asclera for sclerotherapy. This is one of only two FDA-approved medications for sclerotherapy. Asclera is extremely effective and has a significantly better side effect profile compared to Fibrovein (Sotradecol). Using this brand-name drug is significantly more expensive than compounded drugs but results in substantially less side effects and better results. Many other offices who treat spider veins around Denver use either hypertonic saline, Sotradecol or compounded medications which are cheaper for the office, but drastically increase the risk of hyperpigmentation, tissue breakdown and discomfort during the procedure

We have been treating veins for almost 20 years and know how to make treatments safe, comfortable and effective. If you have gone to other offices and the problem always seems to come back, then chances are good there is a deeper issue that your current provider is missing. Our experienced staff will properly diagnose the cause of your spider veins and give you the best options available for treatment.

There are several lasers that are appropriate for spider vein removal. The two we employ the most often in our office are the Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) and Nd:YAG laser. With this potent combination of technology, we are able to effectively treat fine superficial vessels, deeper reticular veins and everything in between.

Pulsed dye laser (PDL)
The PDL uses short pulses of light to specifically target veins, leading them to permanently close. This treatment is most effective for treating superficial red, pink and purple spider veins.

Nd:YAG laser
Nd:YAG lasers are a vascular laser best suited to target deeper vessels. Like the PDL, these lasers are able to specifically target veins and close them without damaging any surrounding tissue. Nd:YAG lasers are able to penetrate deeper into the skin and are best for treating blue or green veins around the temples, forehead, chest and hands.
