CO2 skin resurfacing uses a laser to address color, texture, and tightness of aged or damaged skin. This procedure achieves dramatic results which can take 10-20 years off the look of aged skin by tightening, removing brown spots and wrinkles all at the same time. The laser removes the superficial layer of damaged tissue and stimulates deep collagen and elastin growth. This results in healthier, younger, and more vibrant skin.

At Colorado Skin and Vein, the team uses the industry’s most advanced CO2 laser platform, built by Lumeni, to achieve spectacular results. It can give you the cosmetic benefits that rival a facelift without having to undergo surgery.

CO2 skin resurfacing can help with most types of skin damage, including:

  • Superficial and deep wrinkles
  • Skin laxity
  • Poor skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Scars
  • Hyperpigmentation

The laser removes the damaged layers of skin while stimulating the deeper layers of skin to create new collagen (the protein that keeps your skin firm and “filled”). This approach results in healthier, thicker skin, with less wrinkles, better elasticity and minimal to no traces of prior sun damage.

Fractional CO2

Fractional CO2 simply means poking small holes in the skin. In most cases with this laser platform, anywhere from 5-30% of the tissue is treated. With fractional lasers we have the ability to work deep into the tissue to safely improve its architecture without long recovery times. This is used to improve deeper lines, tighten tissue and revise textual issues such as scarring.

Traditional CO2
Traditional CO2 involves treating most of all of the surface area of the skin but usually confines the depth to top 15% of the skin. This is used to decrease pigment, smooth fine lines and decrease the look of crepe skin.

Which is better?
The short answer is that it depends. In most cases we need to use blend these two techniques together to get the optimal results. It is like a combination of mowing the law to address the the surface concerns and aerating the law to improve its structure and function. Both are needed to get the best results possible.
