Botox® and fillers are two of the most popular aesthetic treatments available today. But how do you know which one is right for you? Learn the differences here.
If you notice wrinkles forming around your eyes and mouth or want to lose the appearance of sagging and scarred skin, you’ve probably considered cosmetic treatments. But with so many options, how do you know which to choose?
Botox® and fillers are two of the most commonly used injectable aesthetic treatments on the market, but they treat different problems in different areas.
Our team at Colorado Skin and Vein offers both of these popular cosmetic injections to our Denver-area patients. And we want you to know the differences so you can decide which is best for you and your aesthetic goals.
Botox is an injectable medication made of a protein that affects how nerves talk to each other..It alters the nerve signals to decrease muscle movement. This medication was originally studied in very large doses to help children with muscle contraction issues secondary to diseases like cerebral palsy. About 20 years ago it was noted to improve muscle spasms around the eyes and smooth the appearance of wrinkles caused by muscle contraction. Since then over 50 million patients have been treated with Botox to safely reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that cause expression lines.
Fillers — also called dermal fillers or soft tissue fillers — are injections that add volume and fullness to your skin. Most contain hyaluronic acid or similar ingredients and have a gel-like consistency that mimics the volume in the deep layer of skin and upper fat to give natural looking and natural feeling results.
Fillers can enhance shallow areas of skin, treat large wrinkles or scars, and plump up the lips.
Both Botox and fillers can give you a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance, but that’s where the similarities end. These aesthetic treatments have different ingredients, give different results, and treat different areas. So, which one is right for you?
If you’re looking to treat fine lines and small wrinkles around your face, Botox is the way to go. Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines to form, so the wrinkles fade over time.
Botox injections need to be repeated every 3-4 months for optimal results.
If you’re looking to plump up areas of thinning skin or you have deep scars that you want to minimize, fillers are your best option. Once injected, fillers give your skin a much fuller appearance.
You can use fillers anywhere on your face, from your lips to your cheeks. Depending on the target area, fillers can last 6-24 months.
Both Botox and fillers are great choices for cosmetic treatments. What’s best for you, however, depends on your aesthetic goals. Your expert provider at Colorado Skin and Vein can help you make the right choice.
