How Does Skin Resurfacing Work?

The CO2 fractional laser is thought of as the standard laser technology for skin resurfacing, which removes damage to the skin layer by layer, but there’s more to it. We perform Active FX and Deep FX in our office, and we do so without the need for anesthesia or sedation. By treating only a portion of the skin, small “bridges” of healthy skin tissue remain. This patented Bridge Technology speeds the healing process because those healthy cells can replicate into the treated area, replacing damaged cells much faster and thus returning you to your normal schedule sooner than traditional CO2 treatments.

The laser’s precise engineering provides optimal control and customization for the many varied skin types of our patients, so we can tailor your treatment for specific problems. The Active FX treatment is ideal for treating dark spots, enlarged pores, skin laxity, and medium-depth lines and wrinkles. Deep FX targets deeper wrinkles and acne scars with amazing results. We can even treat sensitive areas around the eyes better than other lasers on the market. Combined, the Total FX treatment gives you incredible results in a single treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Typical candidates for CO2 laser skin resurfacing have moderate to significant lines and wrinkles, scarring, uneven skin pigmentation, or deep sun damage who wish to improve the quality of their skin for protection and a more youthful appearance.

What Are the Benefits of Skin Resurfacing?

There’s very little in the way of surgical treatment for significant skin damage, which makes CO2 laser resurfacing one of the best procedures available to treat problem skin. The treatment itself is quick, taking between 30-60 minutes for a Total FX session. Secondly, your skin will look incredible. By removing the top layer of skin, we’re removing a lifetime of damage that weakens your skin. Makeup only covers skin imperfections, and over-the-counter creams don’t reach the depth of CO2 laser treatment. Completely new cells form in place of the skin removed, cells that have not been exposed to sunlight or free radicals. They look like new, youthful skin cells because they are new, youthful skin cells. The heat from the procedure also thickens and strengthens your collagen, the skin’s greatest support system, so your skin becomes firmer, tighter, and less affected by gravity.

Another benefit is lasting results. You haven’t covered up scarring, sun damage, and uneven textures and diminished wrinkles. You’ve removed them. Your skin will still age, but from the starting point of new cells, not the older, damaged ones. Taking good care of your skin can prolong the results and stave off aging and deterioration for years to come.
