People often think of facial veins as “broken capillaries” when in fact they are dilated or enlarged vessels. These can be caused by sun, genetics, or trauma. These veins can be treated with a simple office procedure that produces results immediately.

Facial redness can occur from too much sun exposure, but it may also be due to rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition caused by the dilation of small blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. It is characterized by facial redness, especially on the cheeks, nose, and forehead. In some cases, small red bumps and pustules may develop. This condition usually becomes more noticeable after 30 years of age.

A port-wine stain is a red/purple birthmark caused by the malformation of capillaries (tiny blood vessels) in the affected area of the skin. Infants’ and children’s port-wine stains are usually flat and light in color, but as they mature, the birthmarks generally darken and become thicker. Small disfiguring lumps may also develop. Cherry hemangiomas are common benign vascular lesions resulting from dilated venules. These lesions can appear on almost any area of the body and present as small red macules, which may grow in size and number as a person ages. A venous lake is another vascular lesion that forms as a result of dilated venules. Although these dark blue pigmented lesions are benign, they can appear to mimic malignant lesions, such as basal cell carcinoma and melanoma.

The Pulsed Dye Laser delivers a concentrated beam of light that heats the proteins in the walls of the affected blood vessels, which causes them to coagulate. This damages the blood vessels without harming the surrounding skin. Treatment takes just a few minutes to complete and requires no downtime. You will notice your beautiful, even complexion become apparent over the next few weeks as the body’s immune system naturally removes the damaged vessels.
