BioTE® Medical Hormone Replacement Therapy

As you age, your body may naturally decrease its production of testosterone and estrogen, both common sex hormones. This can lead to a number of physical and sexual health side effects that can have negative impacts on the quality of your life. At Colorado Skin & Vein, we believe that beauty begins on the inside and that feeling good leads to looking good. After 10 years of research, we now offer BioTE®, the single best bio-identical hormone replacement program available.

How BioTE® Medical Pellet Hormones Help

Our bio-identical hormone replacement uses slow-release pellets instead of shots or pills. The pellets are created from natural plant sources and are IDENTICAL to your natural testosterone and estrogen. The cardiac output-dependent release of these pellets mimics your own hormone release. This treatment is completely physiological, and unlike synthetic hormone replacement, bio-identical hormones administered in pellet form are protective to the breasts, bones, brain, and heart. Bio-identical hormone replacement can also treat common physical and sexual issues associated with low hormone levels. Treatments last between three and five months.

Tailored Treatments for Men and Women

Men and women experience changes in their hormone levels that affect their lives differently. Understanding how hormones like testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone affect men and women is critical in helping patients feel their best. A deep understanding of the research about how these hormones affect future health is also crucial in giving patients the best advice. With BioTE®, we can customize what your body needs to function optimally.

FAQs

How often will I need treatment?

The frequency of treatment varies between patients. Most pellet implants last between three and five months.

What is tested and treated?

One of the most important concepts in getting hormone replacement right is treating the whole patient. We will review hormones including testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. We will also optimize thyroid function and monitor critical nutrients such as vitamin D and iodine.

What’s the difference between bio-identical hormone pellets and hormone creams?

Pellets allow for the slow release of hormones to therapeutic levels, which helps prevent the “roller coaster” effect that many people can experience with creams. Creams also have two other major disadvantages. The first is that it is very difficult to get a therapeutic increase in hormone levels due to their poor absorptions. Finally, patients need to understand that the body where the cream was applied can transfer the medication for several hours after application.

What’s the difference between bio-identical hormone pellets and testosterone shots?

Pellets allow for the slow release of hormones to therapeutic levels, which helps prevent the “roller coaster” effect that many people can experience with injections. Testosterone injections are prescribed twice a week (104 times a year) versus approximately two pellet insertions per year. The other major disadvantages of testosterone injections are that they are more likely to cause enlargement of the breasts (gynecomastia) as well as increase thromboxane and red blood cell count, which makes blood clots more likely.
