Many cosmetic practices employ a range of providers who are educated, certified, and experienced in the art and science of cosmetic rejuvenation. There can be a lot of confusion about who performs what procedures. At Colorado Skin & Vein, our staff is highly trained and passionate about serving our patients and making the latest advancements available, often before anywhere else in the state.

What Types of Nurses Work in Cosmetic Practices?

Cosmetic nurses focus on cosmetic and dermatologic procedures and assist physicians with the procedures provided in that practice. They also perform less invasive procedures, such as administering injections like Jeuveau™dermal fillers, and performing laser treatments as offered by the practice.

Nurses in a practice may specialize in a specific area, such as injections, laser technology, and dermatology treatments. They’re skilled at assessing skin-related health concerns, performing procedures such as laser therapy, tattoo removalfacial rejuvenation injectionsmicroneedlingskin resurfacing, body sculpting such as CoolSculpting, and chemical peels. For these specialties, nurses can assess a patient’s concerns, recommend an optimal treatment, carry out that treatment, and perform post-treatment care.

RN, BSN, and NP Nurses

There are many educational pathways a nurse may take, including becoming a licensed Registered Nurse, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

Registered Nurses make up the largest healthcare occupation, and an RN is often required before pursuing a specialty. RNs are licensed and have the expansive medical knowledge to care for their patients, offer emotional support and education about particular health concerns, and assist with specialized procedures.

BSN nurses have a 4-year degree in Nursing and are more often specialists in their chosen field. This specialization allows more hands-on patient care and in the cosmetic and dermatology fields, this means greater expertise in specific non-invasive procedures such as laser treatments and injection specialties.

NP nurses have advanced clinical training, and are certified to diagnose illnesses, treat medical conditions, and provide evidence-based health education to their patients. NPs are licensed to prescribe medication as necessary and are qualified to treat patients in a clinical setting much like physicians do.

Meet Christina Jordan, MSN, FNP-C

Colorado Skin & Vein is proud to have the talents of Christina Jordan, MSN, FNP-C as part of our practice’s family. Christina earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Nursing with honors and is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Her varied and extensive experience of more than 10 years began as a float nurse at St Joseph’s Hospital, a highly coveted position that requires expertise in many medical disciplines, among them surgical care, OB/GYN, pediatrics, acute care, and complex medical patient cases.

Christina is a dedicated patient advocate and has continued her study of medicine, and particularly cosmetic medicine, through completion of her CANS (Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist) certification. This requires two years of hands-on training with a plastic surgeon before taking a grueling, rigorous exam. Christina is one of only 19 CANS certified nurses in the entire state. She brings her love of aesthetic medicine and patient care to each and every patient she cares for.

Everyone on the Colorado Skin & Vein team is proud to work with Christina, and her dedication to our patients makes us one of the premier clinics in the state of Colorado. Schedule a consultation with Christina or any one of our trained practitioners to learn more.
