The FDA’s approval of Jeuveau™ in early 2019 challenges the reign of BOTOX® as the only real answer to these signs of aging. At Colorado Skin & Vein, we have the honor of being one of the first providers in the United States to bring Jeuveau™ to our patients.
How Jeuveau™ Works
Jeuveau™ treats horizontal forehead lines, brow furrows, and crow’s feet much the same way BOTOX® has for years. The muscles in the forehead are responsible for our facial expressions when we frown, furrow or raise our brows, or squint. Jeuveau™ blocks the nerves responsible for the movement of these muscles, giving our skin a chance to relax and smooth out so lines and wrinkles don’t deepen over time. Jeuveau™ shares the same treatment protocol as BOTOX® in injection depth and distribution, as well as the same safety and effectiveness profile. Jeuveau™ is truly the first genuine competitor BOTOX® has seen since it emerged.
Jeuveau™ has one big advantage over BOTOX®: cost. Evolvus, Jeuveau™’s manufacturer, perfected Hi-Pure Technology, which allows Jeuveau™ to be freeze dried. This eliminates the need for refrigerated shipping and vastly reduces the cost to distribute Jeuveau™. Jeuveau™ also has more flexible pricing due to not being restricted by government reimbursement for Medicare or Medicaid and similar programs. This is because Jeuveau™ is only approved for cosmetic enhancement, unlike BOTOX®, which is also used to treat migraines and other conditions. Are the Results as Good as BOTOX®?
Better actually. In a head-to-head study, patients who received Jeuveau™ were consistently happier with their results 5 months after treatment than those who’d received BOTOX®. Jeuveau™ shows a visible reduction in lines and wrinkles within 10 days of treatment, compared to BOTOX®, which can take up to 2 weeks. Some patients report injection site sensitivity for a few hours after their treatments, but it subsides quickly. There is no downtime associated with Jeuveau™ treatments, and patients are able to return to their active schedules immediately following the procedure.
