Protecting Your Skin After Summer: What To Expect At A Skin Check

This past summer was another one for the memory books. Between tailgating and family picnics, you spent as much time as possible soaking up the hot summer sun. Maybe you even managed to take the family on a camping trip or to a place where everyone could relax, unwind, and reconnect.

Now that the summer is winding down, it’s time to do a little more reconnecting – but this time, with your skin. This is the time where you may be noticing a few signs of sun damage start to crop up, like hyperpigmentation, dry spots, and maybe even a few new creases along your forehead.

That’s why it’s important to schedule a post-summer skin check, so you can assess your skin damage and correct it ASAP. But what should you expect at a skin check?

What to Expect at Your Skin Check

At Colorado Skin & Vein in Englewood, CO, our board certified providers specialize in skin checks that provide you with concrete solutions for correcting summer-related skin damage. Here’s what you can expect at your skin check:

  • Your provider will begin your skin check by asking questions about your medical history. This is especially important if you have skin cancer in your family’s history, which can provide useful context for the examination.
  • After asking questions about your medical history, your provider will begin to examine the entirety of your skin for any unusual lesions and moles. This entire process takes 15 minutes or less.
  • If you have any unusual lesions or moles, your provider will recommend a follow-up biopsy to determine what they are.

In addition to these annual skin checks, the dermatologists at Colorado Skin & Vein recommend that you continue to perform monthly self-checks, which can help you keep track of any skin changes.
