How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
After extensive testing of multiple systems and performing thousands of laser hair removal procedures, we’ve chosen the Cynosure Apogee Elite laser system. As one of the most comprehensive lasers on the market, the Apogee Elite uses two energy wavelengths, a 755 nm Alexandrite beam and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG beam. This means our laser hair removal treatments can now be performed on patients with a darker skin tone who have previously been disqualified for safety reasons.
The Apogee Elite’s beam combiner not switches between the two wavelengths, but also combines them, which provides your Colorado Skin & Vein technician the versatility to treat different textures and pigments of hair in the same session. The Alexandrite wavelength is characterized by high melanin absorption to damage the hair follicle, which achieves long-term hair removal by an average of 79% in only 3 treatments. The Nd:YAG beam is particularly good for targeting thicker and coarser hair. Both wavelengths effectively and safely remove unwanted hair on every patient without significant changes to the skin, downtime, or potential scarring.

What is Treatment and Recovery Like?
People often ask how painful laser hair removal is, and the answer is different for everyone. Different tolerances for pain determine how much discomfort you experience. The Apogee Elite system contains SmartCool technology, which blows cool air over the treatment area to protect and chill the skin before, during, and after the treatment for maximum patient comfort. The spot size of the beams is also adjustable, so our technicians make fewer passes over larger areas or pinpoint tiny locations in delicate areas for minimal overflow of the wavelength. This shortens discomfort and downtime and reduces the risk of thermal damage.
When Will I See Results?
Because laser hair removal can only target follicles that are in the active growth phase, most patients need 4-6 treatments, scheduled 6-8 weeks apart, to completely remove the hair in a given treatment area. You’ll likely see thinning and shedding after the first treatment, but dormant follicles will become active to replace those that have fallen out. Don’t fret. Your next session will take care of them until most if not all of the follicles have been treated. Once the hair is gone, it shouldn’t return, but a few new strays may grow now and then.
