Whether it might be spending too much time in the sun, or following a better skincare regimen, there are now any number of ways to reverse these effects that these decisions have on our skin. One such treatment is tattoo removal, a fast and effective way to reduce the appearance of unwanted tattoos.
How Does Tattoo Removal Work?
Tattoo removal is performed through a series of laser treatments. The laser delivers light in very short energy pulses that directly targets the tattoo ink. The light energy is absorbed by the tattoo ink within a trillionth of a second. This causes the ink to fracture into smaller pieces. Once the ink particles are small enough, your body removes them through the lymphatic system. Since many tattoos have different colors we use a variety of laser wavelengths for optimal treatment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of tattoo removal treatments required depends on the depth, color and amount of inkin the tattoo. The location of the tattoo on the patient’s body is also a determining factor in how many treatments are needed. Laser treatments are performed in the comfort of the physician’s office. The newest research indicates that treatments should be spaced about 8 weeksapart. Most tattoos take between 6-12 sessions but that may be reduces with our R20 protocol where tattoos are treated twice in the same session. Cosmetic tattoos and smaller tattoos with less ink often resolve in fewer sessions.
