You work hard, take care of yourself, and live a healthy lifestyle, so it’s frustrating when there are pockets of stubborn fat that just won’t go away. How Does CoolSculpting Work?

When scientists discovered that fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than surrounding tissues, it revolutionized the cosmetic enhancement industry’s capabilities for treating unwanted fatCoolSculpting’s premise is simple: freeze fat cells to create cell death while leaving surrounding tissues healthy and undamaged. Fat freezes at near 53° F, while surrounding skin and muscle isn’t affected until near 32° F. The CoolSculpting applicator is placed on your unwanted fat pockets, creates a vacuum that suctions the tissue into the handpiece, and delivers temperatures just below 53° F for one hour. Patients frequently read, check email, or even nap during the treatment, it’s that easy. Afterward, your body absorbs the damaged fat cells and metabolizes them out of your system naturally.

Am I a Good Candidate?

While CoolSculpting’s technology is incredible and life-changing for many people, it’s not intended as a weight-loss method for significantly overweight or obese patients. Ideal candidates are 30 lbs overweight or less and have realistic expectations about their results.

How Long-Term are the Results?

Once we complete puberty, we’ll maintain approximately the same number of fat cells throughout our lifetime. Fluctuations in weight will shrink or expand fat cells, but the quantity is relatively static because fat cells cannot replicate. That’s what makes CoolSculpting so incredible. It’s fat reduction, not weight loss. By crystalizing unwanted fat cells to their destruction, those fat cells won’t be replaced. When the body filters them out, they’re gone for good. As long as the patient continues to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle with a balanced, nutritional diet, the remaining fat cells should not expand with weight gain. You can be confident your bulges won’t return.

For many patients, just one CoolSculpting session is enough. Ultrasound results during clinical trials show reduced-fat up to 25%. There are some necessary cells remaining to provide cushioning and leave patients with a pleasing, sculpted appearance. However, some patients are more satisfied with their results after 2 or 3 sessions. It takes the body time to filter out the crystallized fat cells, so results are visible usually 90-120 days following treatment and continue for another month or so.

Is There Any Downtime?

That’s one of the benefits of CoolSculpting. It’s non-surgical and non-invasive, so you’re back to your regular, active lifestyle as soon as your appointment concludes. There is some mild discomfort during the procedure before the treatment area becomes numb, and it’s possible to experience some swelling and tenderness in the hours following the procedure, but they resolve quickly.

Dr. Verebelyi and the Colorado Skin & Vein team are pleased to be one of the few clinics in the country to reach CoolSculpting Certified Practice status, having completed the CoolSculpting University Master’s course. Through extensive advanced training, we’re experts at using CoolSculpting technology how it was intended, by treating the whole patient. So you can be confident your unique body structure is in the most capable hands for a new, slimmer, sculpted you.
