CoolSculpting remains one of the best ways to contour the body. It is not a new procedure, having been approved by the FDA in 2010, but over the years has proven effective in not just minor spot treatments, but as a noninvasive alternative to liposuction.
CoolSculpting works by freezing fat cells – these cells freeze at a higher temperature than skin or muscle, allowing doctors to selectively damage them without damaging the surrounding skin. When fat cells are frozen, they are removed through the body’s natural processes, leaving you slimmer and contoured. The removed cells are gone for good and the treatment area will have a permanent reduction in fat. However, if you gain weight after a CoolSculpting procedure, the remaining fat cells can increase in size. It’s important to maintain your weight through diet and exercise to preserve your results.
Treatments are relatively painless and require no downtime. Side effects can include contour irregularities and numbing of the nerves. Swelling is minimal and patients can return to work the same day. Two treatments spaced approximately six to eight weeks apart give most people their desired results. If you want to refine your bathing suit body, treatment is recommended three months in advance, six at the most. Results are not visible for at least four weeks, with the fat loss reaching its peak at around eight.
CoolSculpting can reduce up to 25% of fat per area. Many women opt for treatment in the abdomen, bra line, love handles, or hips and thighs. The result is natural and does not cause fibrosis or scarring. Most patients don’t see a dramatic change in pounds on the scale but do drop one to two sizes in clothing.
