Facial veins and redness are often the result of enlarged capillaries and venules or a condition known as rosacea. They usually appear as red, bruise-like spots on the face, but unlike a bruise, they do not disappear or heal. Enlarged capillaries are often easier to detect with age because the skin becomes thinner over time. Dr. Verebelyi can correct this condition with the Pulsed Dye Laser in just a few short treatments.
How Are These Veins Removed?
Introducing the Pulsed Dye Laser
The Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) targets the affected blood vessels using a concentrated beam of light. The light is converted to heat, which damages the unwanted veins without harming the surrounding skin. The damaged veins disappear over the course of a few weeks as the body naturally absorbs them.
How Long Does Each Treatment Take?
Each treatment takes just a few minutes to complete and requires no downtime. The best results often require three treatments, but those with severe rosacea may need five or more.
Is Anesthesia Required To Perform This Procedure?
Anesthesia is not required because pain is minimal. Just before each laser pulse, the machine produces a cold spray that helps minimize any discomfort.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Bruising may result from treatment, but it is often minimal. When bruising does occur, it usually subsides within three to ten days. A less common side effect is a temporary change in skin pigment, which can last a few weeks. Scarring with the Pulsed Dye Laser is extremely rare.
