IPL Photo Rejuvenation

IPL, short for intense pulsed light, is a technological treatment that uses multiple wavelengths of light to treat and enhance skin quality, youth, and vitality. IPL systems are primarily used to treat sun damage, hyperpigmentation, freckles, and mild facial flushing.

While IPL systems are an option for vascular lesions, at Colorado Skin & Vein, we prefer the Pulsed Dye Laser for treating vascular irregularities. We carry a wide range of laser modalities to provide the best treatment options for all skin conditions and signs of aging.

What Is IPL Photo Rejuvenation?

IPL can safely treat hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and mild facial flushing on skin types I-III, but darker skin types require caution due to the ability of the device to see pigment and the possibility to cause burns and/or pigmentation irregularities on darker skin.

Colorado Skin & Vein uses the CUTERA xeo® IPL device which delivers an intense, broad spectrum of light to the treatment area. You may opt for topical numbing to be applied to the skin before treatment for comfort although the treatment is tolerable without it. Targeted pigmentation will gradually darken over 24 to 48 hours post-treatment and will appear broken up resembling coffee grounds until the pigmentation sheds itself, typically within one week on the face and two weeks on the body. The treated skin is left with a clearer, more rejuvenated appearance. The broad light spectrum allows xeo® to target multiple skin conditions at once for complete photo rejuvenation.

Treatment with CUTERA xeo® has minimal downtime and a rapid recovery. Patients can undergo a series of several treatments to receive the degree of skin revitalization they desire. IPL can also be customized to simultaneously accommodate multiple needs for the ultimate skin care combination treatment.

How Is IPL Different From Laser Treatments?

Both IPL and lasers use light energy to treat the skin. However, lasers use only a single wavelength of light, which typically makes them only able to treat a single condition at once. IPL devices use a broad spectrum of visible light that can be filtered for use in targeting several conditions at the same time.

Patients with a wide variety of skin conditions and signs of aging can experience dramatic results with photo rejuvenation through IPL. During your consultation, Dr. Verebelyi and his staff can determine whether IPL treatment or another type of treatment is best for you.
