What Is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive way to remove fat.
How Does CoolSculpting® Work?
CoolSculpting is very simple; fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than other cells like skin or muscle. That means that we can selectively damage fat cells without damaging the surrounding skin. Any area that has a bulge of fat can be treated. The applicator is applied to the treatment area and suction pulls the skin and fat into the handpiece. Normal body temperature is about 98.6° F. A fat cell freezes at just about 53° F, whereas, other cells such as skin and muscle freeze at 32° F. The applicator reduces the tissue temperature to just below 53° F. This is cool enough to damage the fat while leaving all of the other tissue unaffected. The applicator is left on the treatment area for one hour. Afterward, the treated fat is thoroughly massaged which increases the fat cell damage.

Is There Any Downtime?
After the procedure, patients go on with their normal daily routine without any limitations. Within minutes of the fat cells thawing out, their damaged membranes start to leak into the spaces between the cells. About three days after the procedure, this leakage causes white blood cells to arrive at the treatment site and start the slow process of removing those damaged fat cells. Over the next 90-120 days, the immune system will remove a total of approximately 25% of the fat layer. This process is completely natural and does not result in any fibrosis or scarring. The fat layer looks identical to what it did before the procedure, except it is about 25% thinner. There are no needles and no cutting involved. Our office has received the Certified Center Award from the manufacturer of CoolSculpting. Typically, two treatments are recommended for optimal results.
