A healthy body depends on every part functioning correctly. If the valves that direct blood flow in the veins stop functioning, they may cause the veins to expand, lose their form, and protrude beneath the skin.
This condition, known as venous reflux, can lead to varicose veins and even ugly, painful leg ulcers. The ClosureFast™ system uses endovenous radiofrequency (EVRF) ablation to safely and effectively close down these damaged veins.
The ClosureFast™ system is a groundbreaking treatment that utilizes focused heat to close dysfunctional veins. Closing down these veins relieves unpleasant symptoms of venous disease and helps the body to function in a healthier way. Here at Colorado Skin & Vein, we offer EVRF as one of many highly advanced treatments for chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins. Using ClosureFast™, we can treat the great saphenous veins (GSV), the small saphenous veins (SSV), and perforating vessels. With ClosureFast™, you can have a noticeable improvement in symptoms almost immediately with little to no downtime.
ClosureFast™ is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a radiofrequency catheter and portable generator to treat patients who suffer from chronic venous insufficiency. First, ultrasound is used to guide access to the vein to be treated. The tiny ClosureFast™ catheter is placed inside the vessel, and the area is numbed to ensure the patient’s comfort, protect the surrounding tissue, and improve the contact between the catheter and vein wall. Then each segment of the vein is treated with a precise delivery of energy. This treatment signals the body to close the vein. Once the vein has closed, the blood naturally redirects into healthier veins. The technology in ClosureFast™ is so precise that the treatment is easily controlled and regulated in real time.
The ClosureFast™ procedure is performed in-office. The treatment takes only 45 to 60 minutes and has a faster recovery as well as lower rates of pain, bruising, and complications compared to some other vein ablation treatments. Most patients can resume normal activities within only a few days.
EVRF with ClosureFast™ is a minimally invasive treatment for GSVs, SSVs, and perforating vessels. Unlike vein stripping, which requires incisions in the groin and calf to tie off and pull out the vein, ClosureFast™ uses only a small incision below the knee and closes the vein with controlled heat energy. Unlike laser ablation, ClosureFast™ uses low heat temperatures and controls the heat with radiofrequency energy. As compared to both alternative procedures, EVRF leads to less pain, less bruising, and fewer complications, but it still maintains excellent quality and reliable results.
Most patients can return to normal activities within just a few days of EVRF treatment. It is usually recommended that you adopt a regular walking routine over the weeks following treatment and that you avoid strenuous activities or prolonged standing for about a week.
While some bruising and tenderness are possible, most patients have minimal to no scarring, bruising, swelling, or discomfort after the ClosureFast™ procedure.
Many medical insurance companies will offer coverage of your ClosureFast™ procedure. Check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage before seeking this treatment.
Many patients notice improvements within a few days. Almost all patients will experience noticeable improvements in symptoms within a few weeks of treatment as any residual swelling resolves.
Research has shown that over 90 percent of veins treated with ClosureFast™ have stayed closed even out to five years after treatment. The reliability of these results demonstrates that with just one minimally invasive procedure, you can correct chronic venous insufficiency issues and experience a relief of symptoms.
We offer several excellent vein treatments here at Colorado Skin & Vein, and many patients qualify for one or more of these treatments. Our vein specialists can carefully examine you to determine whether ClosureFast™ is the right treatment for your vein problems.
